Examination & consultation: answering medical history, current symptoms and explaining the endoscopy procedure.
Signing a commitment to agree to endoscopy
Pre-endoscopy preparation:

- Stomach: Fasting for at least 6-8 hours before endoscopy. Stop certain medications as directed by your doctor.

- Colon: Taking laxatives or colon cleansing solutions as directed to completely remove stool.

- Gastroscopy: The doctor inserts a soft gastric endoscope through the mouth into the esophagus, stomach and duodenum to observe.

- Colonoscopy: After gastroscopy, a soft colonoscope is inserted through the anus into the rectum and the entire colon for observation.

During the endoscopy, if abnormalities are detected (eg, polyps, ulcers, tumors), the doctor may perform a biopsy (taking a small tissue sample) for testing. Polyps can also be removed during endoscopy.
